SpaceX’s Starship 12 rocket had a successful launch Friday night, before concluding its test run around the Earth with a planned fireball explosion as it splashed down in the Indian Ocean.

SpaceX launched its biggest, most powerful Starship yet on a test flight Friday, an upgraded version that NASA is counting on to land astronauts on the moon .

The company shot off the roughly 400-foot-tall rocket from a new launchpad at its Starbase facility in southern Texas just after 6:30 p.m. ET Friday.
